can anyone tell me if its possible to search for births using just the mothers maiden name and district between 1984 - 2005?

I know it was once possible on an alternative site to this 'familyrelatives.com but it seems to look differnt these days. Has anyone any experience of this site and is it worthwhile before I buy any credits?

I am willing to buy some credits but just want to know if the search is possible.

Im looking for Twins born between 1984-2005 in Southampton - mmn JEFFREY

Im afraid that is all the info I have no names, no sex of the children.

Okay found a possible set of twins in 1986 using Ancestry

It appears that there are possibly others. Dec2003 page entries 246&247

But there really is too little info provided. I could understand a set year +/- a few, but a 21 year range seems excessive. Potentially it's a generation.

Southampton is stated as the district. So how does the OP know that for certain?

Searching a wider area (ie Hampshire) throws up other possibilities.

Thankyou very much for the replies - huge apologies for the delay in replying.

We are told that the mum attended 2 funerals in apx 1989 and 2005 and had the twins sometime in between theose dates. We havent been told what sex they were or when they were born as the lady who has told us is elderly and memory not too good. I am unable to find a UK marriage for the mum Ms Jeffrey so do not know if she married ot not.

I can explain the link to myself but would rather do it via a PM if possible.

I know its a long shot but if the info is searchable we were happy to plow through ant possibles as we are trying to locate someone. Please could people tell me where/how the info was available as i didnt know where to search for this with only this limited info??

As you can see from the comments above this info is available on Ancestry, which does offer a pay-as-you-go subscription.

There is another way to do the search on Ancestry - for free. Go to
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8782
enter the mum's maiden surname and the date range, say 1995 +/-10 and search.
Without a sub, they won't immediately tell you the details, but you can see them.
You see, Ancestry will also order the b.cert for you - mind you, they charge 150% handling fee for placing the order, so I can't imagine why you wouldn't place it yourself, but anyways, if you click on the shopping basket thingy, the prospective order pops up for you to check - this has the GRO index details like name, date, rego district, page #, etc. If you're looking for twins, it should be possible to identify those as all the details should be the same for a pair of entries with difft forenames (well, technically, there's a 20% chance the page #s will differ by one, also). It's a bit of a pain going thru all those popups, but it's free.

I did the search with a common name - Hesmondhalgh - and got 95 hits abt 5 p.a. A name like Jeffrey will get 100+ p.a., so it's probably best to do that a year at a time - 1995 got 116 hits. (When I asked for the 21 y range, it said I got 0 hits - bit of a bug, there.)

Just an update - thanks to the advice I got here I was able to find twins born in Hampshire with the correct MMN (that for the rather large age range).

Fortunately the surname of the twins was quite unusual. Then a quick Elec Roll check using the unusual surname - found one in the right area with mum with the right name. Appears she'd married after 2006 so I hadnt been able to find a marriage.

Quick look mn facebook and there she was, twins and all!

The wonders of the internet and the good members of Genes Reunited of course!
