Ancestry has Railway employment records. The following is an example of a record:

UK, Railway Employment Records, 1833-1956

A Smith

Residence Date:1 Feb
Station:Chester
Company:Midland
Description:Goods guards 1880 - 1898

There are images attached which have a bit more info. For the one above it gives his wage as 28/-.

If you don't have Ancestry, post some details and somebody will look for you.

I don't think a tramcar driver would have been employed by the Railways. There are a couple of J Abrahams but not as tramcar drivers.

Does anyone know what kind of railway records of employment are held. I am looking for records pertaining to my Great great grandfather who was recorded as a railway labourer/navy in 1901 etc in Croydon surrey

I am also looking for Joseph Abrahams who was recorded as a tramcar driver in Ecclesfield Yorks in 1880
Any suggestions /records greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Kevin
