Hi

New to this, I've been trying to go through Census' but most of the people I'm searching on census don't appear to be on any of the census'. Am I doing something wrong?

Any advice greatly received

Welcome to the boards Lorraine.
First question is which site you are using for your search - is it this one, that is Genes Reunited?
It might be that you are being too exact in your search criteria - try allowing for a variation in spelling for example, and a couple of years' leeway for birth year.
Maybe if you give us an example we can make some suggestions.

Should the ones you are looking for be on any census ? ie born before 1911

Good Evening

Many thanks for your replies. I am only able to use my laptop of an evening due to it belonging to my son.

I am a complete beginner and I'm unsure of exactly what I am doing! I have been going through the census' and putting my late parents names in but nothing is coming up for them. I am using the census' on here.

When were your parents born, as the census records in this country stop at 1911?

Hi Lorraine,

Census information has a 100 year closure on it, so the most recent Census Return you can view (anywhere) is the 1911. Consequently, the 1921 Census won't be available for a few more years yet.

Depending on when your grandparents were born (ie if it was before 1911), you might find them instead of your parents.

If your parents were born after 1911, you won't find them on any censuses currently available

Have you tried looking for their births on freebmd?
