Never give up!

Potty

I searched for 10 years to find a document that would place my grandfather with his parents. I had births or baptisms for all his siblings but nothing for granddad and he never appeared on a census with his parents. I had his father's name from his marriage cert and POB from various other documents. At the end of last year, I found his baptism (in new records on Ancestry). A real Eureka! moment! So, keep looking - new info is always appearing on various sites.

I bet that was as good as any Christmas present for you Potty. After all that time it must have been thrilling for you to find his baptism.

I get the usual updates from Ancestry but rarely bother looking as I've searched so many times for missing bits and pieces that I've assumed they just aren't available. However I recently got a message to say that the 1911 census had been updated. Had a look and to my amazement my hitherto lost grandfather popped up!

It didn't tell me anything particularly new, but just nice to place him at that time and complete the set as it were.

I'd love to know tho why the records for a tiny Pit village in Yorkshire suddenly appeared?

So, as Potty says - keep looking!

I agree with Potty too,
Never give up.
I had been looking for my paternal grandad's brothers for years and found them quite unexpectedley . They both just seemed to pop up on shipping lists, they were both crew members .

One with the Merchant Navy and the other a crew member.

One died in India and the other in Germany, both died quite young so never had the chance to marry or have children.

Still got a good few to find but I know they will turn up when they want to.

Oh how I agree with Potty!

I often take another look to see if records have turned up. Last year my missing gr gr grandmother turned up on the 1901 in Lambeth. I'd been looking out for her for years. So now where was she in 71,81,91. (in Lambeth I bet).

I never gave up on my paternal Irish family either and after 7 years of searching, I found them
I was certain that I had correctly identified my gggg grandparents who lived in Derry but I could find no trace of any births or baptisms for children that would confirm it

I can't fully explain why I did this but, fairly recently I was at the GRO in Edinburgh.
I put the names that I was researching ( 1830's) into the Catholic baptisms.
There they were!

My ancestors married in Derry but all of their children were born in Glasgow.
They returned to Ireland within a few years, leaving no trace that they had ever lived in Scotland

It was my Eureka moment and even the lady sitting next to me noticed my reaction!
