I am unsure how to look up an ancestor Cornelius Brett married to Rebecca Crane. It would seem that the dob was 1770s. I can't find records dating back that far! Could anyone help please?

A tree on Ancestry has

Cornelius Brett
Birth Abt Mar 1770 in Market Weston, Suffolk, England
Death 20 Feb 1835 in Mendlesham, Suffolk, England

In all probability the death date came from a burial register (it might even be the date of burial). The register frequently gives the age from which you can calculate an approx yob.
'Abt March' suggest a baptism record.
