I am looking for a marriage between Charles John Gray and Grace Anstey about 1894. Also Charles' death some 1 or 2 years later. I believe these may have occured in Dunbartonshire.
Thanks for any help.

Scottish BMD records are on Scotland's people which is NOT a subscription site.

To view info on there it is necessary to purchase credits.

Doing a free search gives no matches on those surnames from 1885 to 1910

Using Charles John Gray with just Grace brings up no matches either

GlitterBaby Report 5 Feb 2015 22:54

There are no deaths on Scotlandspeople for Charles John Gray between 1893 and 1901

Getting no matches on SP for a birth for Grace after 1855 when registration began in Scotland

Where have you got your info from ?

How did you work back to this 'couple'?

There is no Grace Anstey on any Scottish census 1841-1901

You don't have her in your GR tree.............

Anstey seems to be a predominantly DEVON name

A bit of a mystery! A friend in Oz needs to find out about her gfather-Chelmer John Gray c1896 born in Scotland. His parents were supposedly Charles and Grace. Nothing about his life seems to ring true to me and am beginning to wonder if he was transported to Oz in the early 1900s and invented a new life for himself!
He married Mary Cowe who was several years his junior and daughter of his boss!
Is a real strange one!!
Any ideas??

My father gives his name as Chelmer John Gray or Charles Joseph Gray DOB as 21st January 1896, Dumbarden, Scotland and father as Chelmer John Gray, Gentleman, Mother as Grace Anstry. All efforts to trace them have failed. Dad served with the Black Watch from 1916 to 1919 WW1 and was wounded in December 1916. !920 onward he appears to have been in Australia but did spent time in Texas as a boy and later went to Canada where he married. His wife from that marriage died on the 5th February 1925. Can anyone assist in tracing my father or his family.

So now have different spelling for the surname of Grace.

Scottish birth certs from the 1890's should have the date of the parents marriage on it

There is a private tree on Ancestry for him which has his marriage in 1938 to Mary Cowe - would that be where his parents' names came from?

Potty

Potty Report 7 Feb 2015 11:53

Is his father's occupation given on the marriage cert?

Father's Name: Chelmer John Gray, born Dumbardon Scotland about 1896. Known as Gentleman Jack Gray.
My Grandfather's Name: Chelmer John Gray also born in Scotland.
My Grandmother's Name: Grace Anstry, born in Scotland and with the death of my Grandfather, remarried as Grace Paterson and moved to Galverston Texas.
Note: Possible that the Surnames may have been spelt in a different way. eg Gray - Greye; Grey; Graye. Paterson could have been Peterson etc.
Last known information was that my Father had Step Sisters and that they could have moved top Melbourne Australia.
