Twins listed wrongly

I would just add that there are circumstances where the entry in the GRO master index will be changed if subsequent investigation by them confirms it differs from the actual register.

The reason I say that is because the very thing happened with my own marriage entry where both our surnames were indexed incorrectly by the GRO and were subsequently corrected after I had written to them pointing this out.

However, the correction will never find its way onto fiches, scans and copies in circulation unless the original index is ever re-scanned at a future date.

May I suggest that you add a Post It note to the entry on freebmd.org.uk ................

that way, others will know the correct spelling.

The GRO entry itself cannot be changed

If you mean an I was used within the surname instead of an E then it was an easy mistake to make when they were transcribed from the large ledgers onto fiche by hand ,which is the format you see and read from.

Hi,
Ive just recently looked at the BMD for my mother and her twin brother and have seen that they have been listed wrongly....bith are on the right page but on one the surname has been spelt with an I and the other an E...... this was in the 1940's !!
