I think it's a job handed around ............... no-one seems to really want it, at least that's the impression given by the lack of appearances over the last 2 years.

It WAS set up 3 or 4 years ago as a "job" to be done by someone on staff (as against a new hire) in response to all the complaints from members.

but interest has dropped off ..... just like any interest in GR, despite all the assurances being given that they are working

I posted this on FB .................

------
The impression given, once again, is that GR is far more concerned about this free page rather than taking care of the people who are paying to use the main site.

I am beginning to believe you are truly trying to run GR into the ground, and hoping that the members on there will stop complaining and disappear into the woodwork.
-----

Their response today .............

Genes Reunited That of course isn't the case. We take all feedback on board and we're currently assessing the best way for the Genes boards to be managed

Still annoyed that she has not yet put in any sort of appearance on the boards other than the one post on Announcements.

Is this a paid position with GR ?

I have been posting on their FB page about the no show of the Community Manager and just got this message

Genes Reunited
27 April at 13:05

Hi Maureen. We're currently assessing the way in which we approach the community management of our boards in order to ensure they're well supervised. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

Once again no one from the Team, either on the site or on Facebook, seems able to read a simple question and give a direct answer

Complete waste of time again - why do I bother !!

Message received about 45 minutes ago.

From: Community Manager .
10:31 AM

Hello Cynthia

Thank you for the message.

The main problem was a gremlin in the account and it was that which caused the problem! We have a separate social media team who look after FB and it was them who alerted me to the messages posted there ( not getting replies didn't flag up any issue as I just believed that was perhaps normal!)

But I shall hold onto this info just in case I ever need to refer to it

Many thanks again

Not sure I am any the wiser to be honest :-S

I must apologize, I was wrong. You can send a pm to the Community Manager. I don't know what I was thinking, I was trying to click on the avatar. Well I've been known to be wrong before...once or twice.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 26 Apr 2015 08:12

Margee.....I HAVE sent a message to Alison. If you click on 'Community Manager', you can send a message to her in the usual way.

I was just reminding folk of what the message said... :-D

(I also put short explanatory note in) ;-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Apr 2015 23:44

Margee ............

you are correct ..........

I saw the initial announcement and re-posted it over because I know that few people look on there

Then I saw the posting by Alison on Announcements and so re-posted that.

It so happens that the page that I bookmarked years ago for GR was the general page headed Genes Reunited Message Boards, and I've never bothered changing it

......... and so I see the What We're Talking About box which shows all the Boards with new postings noted

I look at Announcements if it shows a new announcement just out of interest.

Ken ................. I think that it is not unreasonable to expect that staff should make an announcement re appointment of new Community Manager on ALL Boards ..............

at least we have to acknowledge that they are posting ON GR, not on FB as they were once wont to do :-0

If GR are making an announcement then the Announcements board is the obvious place for it. Not everyone reads all of the other boards. Is there a suggestion that an announcement should be posted on all of the boards?

I do agree that some indication should be made at the top of the page when there is a new announcement made.

The fact that Sylvia reposted the initial message doesn't mean that the Community Manager will read replies on those boards. If anyone feels the CM has to be made aware of something they can always send a PM.

MargaretM Report 25 Apr 2015 12:25

But, Cynthia, Alison's post was on the Announcements Board where we can't respond. It was only because Sylvia re-posted it that were were able to respond. Consequently the responses won't show up on Alison's "My Threads".

Or am I reading it wrong?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 25 Apr 2015 12:13

This is what I posted on FA.

Hi Alison,

Just a friendly note to say that you have received a reply to the message you posted on the boards re the above subject.

If you are not familiar with this site, then here is how to find your replies: (it may be helpful to copy this out)

Click in order:

COMMUNITY (above, second line from top)
From the list which drops down, click on MY THREADS.

On the next screen you will see the heading of your original message.
Click on that heading.

(When you click on your original message heading, you will see your original message and the replies, which are printed underneath).

PLEASE REPLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED YOU, BY TYPING YOUR RESPONSE IN THE 'ADD YOUR REPLY' BOX AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR THREAD, AND THEN CLICK SUBMIT.

They will all see it and then know that you have seen their advice etc. and may be able to help you further.

It is really helpful if you stay by your computer for a while after posting a message as replies can come back very quickly. Don't be afraid to ask for more help if you need it. You may need to keep checking for new replies for a couple of days.

If you know how to do all this, then please ignore me - just trying to help the new folk!

Regards,

Cynthia

This is what I posted on Find Ancestors thread:

"So, it took 3 weeks for Alison to find out that her post didn't post? And even then she had to find out from Facebook? Guess she doesn't check the boards very often."

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 25 Apr 2015 08:36

Never look on Announcements unless someone posts there might be something of interest. Only had 117 views so far about the new community manager so it looks as if hardly anyone looks at it.

Not interested in the Book Club.

What's the point of posting on announcements?

I never look there unless I am directed

new new announcement .............

Community Manager Advisor 24 Apr 2015 17:27

Afternoon folks. I have heard from comments on FB that my initial reply which I posted earlier this month didn't post ? I did add one I promise but looking again this afternoon, I think I can now see what happened so at least in the future, I should know what to look for. This is a side of the board that I am still learning about I am afraid.%3A-S

Anyway , my apologies for any misunderstanding.

So just to offer a little bit of information about me, my name is as you have seen Alison. I have been with the company now for over 11 years, have been doing genealogy on and off for more than 30 years and of course more on than off for the past 11 !

I haven't actually found any skeletons as such in my cupboards, but have discovered some interesting stories about my relatives - some good and some not so good so fairly typical of family research I think %3A-%29
