FMP has some workhouse records :-)

If you don't have access then give some names and I will take a look for them

Hello Shirley thank you for the offer of help.
my mothers maiden name was Jane Oliver she was born in 1893 my uncle and her brother were both born in the Askew arms a public house on Askew road Gateshead his name was Arthur Askew Oliver. Arthur was born 1887. When their father John Oliver who was the inn keeper died the family were evicted and went to the workhouse. the mother was Janet, there was also another son Norman born1890 who appears to have got separated from the rest of the family.

I do know Arthur did live in Newbiggin by the sea with his family and Jane was a nanny for a Mr. Mark Hedley. When Mark's wife died Jane and Mark got married and had a family of their own.

I thank you in advance John

Scroll to the end where it tells you where the surviving records are kept. Unless you can visit the Archives, you'd probably have to pay them to search the Admission and Discharge registers.

Even then destinations may not be listed on Discharge.
