The page nos could be the same or consecutive

ie they list so many names on one page then start a new page . One twin could be the last one on a page and the other twin the first listing on the next page

Or they could both be listed on the same page :-)

makes no difference if the twins are identical or not ,each would have their own birth registration

It normally would be............but, in rare instances, they are on consecutive pages

The Volume number would definitely be the same

On UKBMD summary sheets
they are the same - I had Thomas and James twins born in Stoke on Trent in 1839 and both identical reference BUR/002/074

Susan - No - the same thing applies (at least when the last element (like 074) is a page # - in fact, since the local pages have only 5 entries per page, it's more likely that twins will be split across consecutive pages.

Some subdistricts use the entry # as the last element (they nearly always do for marrs, which is how spouses can be paired up). Birth (and death) registers only have 100 pages, so if the last element is in the range 101-500, then they're definitely using entry #s - e.g.,

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1841

AINSCOW Edward Standish Wigan & Leigh KNOWLS STND/1/482
