I went to http://www.ancestry.co.uk/ and scrolled down to where is says 'search free'. It then took me to another page where I filled in the details. Think you may have to register to view but that's free. Hope it works for you.

Perhaps that´s why, after being a fully paid up member for more than 8 years, my sign in was rejected as unknown 3 times yesterday.
Gave up in the end. Will try again today.

That last link takes you to the April free access. I think the signing in is so you can see the actual records not the list..

Sorry Joyce. Not sure what you mean when you ask if the information they give you is correct, nor about merging dates. I don´t have Familytreemaker myself, so I can´t really say.
As for people not answering, it´s a common problem on all sites. Some people only check in every few weeks, some may be away on holiday or dealing with family problems, or they may be ill or their computer has crashed.. best to give them a few weeks or if it´svery important to you, send another message.

Joyce, no information you get on the web can be considered 100% correct.

In particular information you get from other peoples trees needs to be checked with other sources. Although no one wants to have false information in their trees some make false assumptions in their eagerness.

Also Ancestry data is transcribed from handwritten documents so errors may creep in there. The original documents (and that also applies to certificates) may have had false information included because the informant did not know or even lied.

So you need to check everything before including it in your tree. When looking at other ancestry trees see if a source is quoted for their information. If it is, then you know where to look for corroboration.

You've already been answered about whether info on trees is correct (or not). I always take the data as a guide only then try to find the original sources.

When you're looking at suggested trees to merge, see how many sources are numbered against the summary. If there are zero, it does suggest that the tree owner is no longer a subscribing member as attached census or anything else disappears when their sub runs out.

As with Trees and membership on GR - they may still have an active linked email address. You can only sit and hope for an eventual reply.
