Thank you all for your time and interest. I don't know much about this technical stuff. It was not around when I was at school lol. But I will get my 17 year old grandson to explain it or preferably do it for me. Any other advice greatly appreciated. "Thanks"

If you hold the control key down while doing a drag and drop it will copy rather than move. Also drag and drop between different drives (e.g. computer and memory stick) is a copy process.

My FTM tree which has about 3500 people in it generates a GEDCOM of about 10 Mb (i.e. .01 Gb), but the associated media files are about 6 Gb

I would also suggest that you download all the relevant census images and whatever parish register images you have.
Download them onto your computer, then copy them to your memory stick.
This way, you'll have access to them even if you let your subscription lapse, and also have a back up copy on the mem stick.

I would recommend that you DO NOT drag and drop, as that will remove the file(s) from the original location. Instead, open up the windows file explorer (Start button - All programs - Accessories - Windows Explorer), highlight the files to be copied, right- click on the block and choose copy, then highlight the target location, right-click and choose paste.

Actually, windows file explorer is so useful, I right clicked on it and created a shortcut which I pasted onto my desktop.For instance, in it I can click on My Documents to highlight it, Then click on File in the top bar, then New, then Folder to get a new folder which I can rename as Genealogy as the place to store all this on my PC.

Yes - download a copy of your tree as a gedcom; it will come attached to an email.
Then either drag to or open and save to the memory stick. Unless your tree is massive, 16G should be big enough. Treat it the same as a disk with the added advantage that you can overwrite files and you'll be fine

Although you'll have stored the tree off site, you really need a FT programme on your home computer to open and read it in the manner to which you are accustomed.

Is it possible to put my tree on a 16 gig memory stick. I have never used a memory stick before. Just been given it. Any help appreciated Thank You. I'm 68 lost most of my memory. lol
