My friend had contacted the council but hadn't managed to get any info, she was told to ring funeral parlours. I will pass this on to her.

The parks and cemeteries dept of the local council should be able to give details if they arranged the funeral

its more than likely that if the council had to arrange the funeral it would be a cremation . It would be too costly for them to do a burial even in a public grave

I would think anyone whose relatives were untraceable would be cremated.

Thanks Gwyn - yes I suppose it is linked to other thread in that it 2 separate questions about the same person.
Don't know technically how to amend it now - will it matter?
The deceased had lost contact with all her family so unlikely to be buried with any.
She did, at one time, have connections with someone in the navy.
Have read your thread and it's very inteersting but makes me realise that this is going to be a very difficult task :-(

If so the information there will help guide advice, so is best kept on one thread, if it's about the same person.

Was there a family grave elsewhere?
Did a Will or note request burial at a certain place.?.......or near a relative.
Have you tried other crematoria in the area?


Keep a list of EACH place where you request information, even if they give a negative result. It is easy over time to forget who these are.

Are there any favoured family undertakers, who might have records in their archives, but not in their on-desk folders?

Sorry, I have another question now.

My friend is trying to find where an estranged family member was cremated or buried in the eighties. She knows when and where the death was registered. She has contacted a crematorium and three main funeral parlours in the area and has also been in contact with the officer at the local council who would deal with funerals of people with no relatives. No one seems to have any record or knowledge of how she can find this out.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what she could do to try and get this information?
