Electoral Roll Question

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Hi All,

Many thanks to those that replied to my thread. I think the general consensus is that the information contained in the electoral rolls may not always be accurate.

I am trying to find a long lost half sister for a friend of mine, perhaps I should post the info I have in the Find Living Relatives section.

Thanks,

Dave

We are on 192.com, but only for 2002 and 2003, and only our names. Any other information has to be paid for.

Not normally - we've received a form this week to check that our details are correct. As far as ages are concerned it asks if someone is over 70 or if a 'new' person is to be added aged 16 or over.

70 is the oldest you can be to serve on a Jury - 16 is a little young for English/Welsh electors but is probably to make sure that their names can be listed when they qualify.

Despite opting out, our names are on freeelectoralroll, and my age is correct. I can only assume that they picked up the yob from an earlier pre 2002 ER. We haven't moved for over 30 years. We aren't on 192.com!

I have never seen this site before, but I have just tried it, using my own name. We have opted out of the public register.

It gives both addresses since 2002, but neither is accurate - I'm not sure where they get the address from, as the one on the actual electoral roll is correct. Neither does it show an age.

Do English electoral rolls show ages? Scottish ones simply say "Over 18".

my age was on freelectrol

As a comparison - a know person who rents is listed twice.

1st address gives no details of the Land Registry sales. 192.com says they lived there 2006-2009

2nd address gives the last Land Registry sale in 1997. 192.com says they've lived there since 2011- to date.

Although an estimated age in on 192, it isn't given on freeelectoral roll

Strange! I've searched for someone who I know is on the ER - the silly begger hasn't opted out!

This person has moved 3 times in the last few years - all the addresses are shown. 'Find out more' tells us when they were last sold, which is fine if the person is the owner, but not if they are renting. I have to check each postcode on 192 to see when they came off the register at that address.
It certainly doesn't give the person's age!

http://www.searchelectoralroll.co.uk/Electoral_Roll_Search.asp is an excellent free finding tool, but the addresses do need to be confirmed by other sources.

BTW - we are extremely well acquainted with this person

Hi Malyon

I've just tried my name on that site and clicked on the "more info" button but all it gives is my name and address. No details at all about age or which electoral register years.

hi
just looked on freelectrol it gives year and age put my own name in its up todate with this year you have to click on the more info button

It may be free, malyon, but it doesn't tell you the registered year. If you use that site, you ought to cross reference the name + postcode on 192.com. 192 won't give the address unless you pay, but will tell you who was also registered at the address in the same years.

David - the ages are generally 'off' but does give you an Indication.

I have just checked my own entry on Findmypast for 2002 and the age it gives would be my age now.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me, when searching the Electoral Roll on this site, and the entry is dated say 2002 for example, and an age rage for the person is 66-70. Does that mean that the person was 66-70 years old in 2002. Or does it mean that the person listed would be 66-70 now ie 2014-2015.

Thanks,

Dave
