I was wondering how I can find out why my Gt Grandfather has put down a different name for his father on his marriage cert and yet he has put down the same occupation as his father on his birth cert. Has anyone come across this before. My Gt Gt grandfather wont be on any census after 1901 when he died, so I am stuck on how to try and get more info.

They lived in London, Tottenham.

Confused?

Hung over from the stag night?

Have you looked for the family in censuses before 1901?

Did his mother re-marry? If he was brought up by a step-father, he may have either presumed he was the father, or felt he had more 'right' to included as his 'father'.

I've one person whose birth father died when she was still a toddler. On the MC, her 'father' has the same surname as she did, but the first name was her step-father's. Either she didn't know for certain, or the vicar made a wrong assumption.

In most cases the MC is written out before the (Church) ceremony. We occasionally see PR forms written out but not signed, then crossed through 'Did not attend'.

Were their names the same and the father was using his second name as this sometimes happens.

His father died in 1901 and the marriage was in 1916. It could be a mix up with a step father but the cert still says deceased and the occupation is the same as on my gt grandads birth cert.
