Come to think of it, the Ask a Librarian service could possible tell you where they were living after the last ER year shown on Ancestry.

Do you have access to Ancestry? They hold Australian ER for selected years to 1980. If we can identify where they went, ther is a better chance of locating them.
If you don't post your grandfather's name and the first names of his wife, year of immigration and we may be able to find them

The 'Ask a Librarian' service for the relevant State/Territory will find and tell you the details. The email links can be found on an internet search.

If it turns out that the older generation has died, it might be possible to track down the place of internment or cremation. Although they won't give you contact details, they may tell you who organised it.

The Australian national archives hold files for immigration – not sure what the cut off date is.

Enter the surname
Select Immigration and Naturalisation from the drop down list
Then Search
If there are too many results, you can ‘refine this search result'.

Although it’s unlikely you’d be able to read the associated documents, the names and dob should enable you to identify the family…if listed.

United States Public Records, 1970-2009

They will frequently show dob and the names of associated adults.

in the 1960s a popular destination for emigration was Australia ... other possibilities are Canada, the US and South Africa

Also Ancestry has electoral rolls for Australia and Canada to 1980 ... if you don't subscribe you can do a free search to start

(when you check the images you can see who else with the same surname was in the household)

Migration records cease at 1960

I've been trying to find living people who may be able to tell me about my grandfather's later years. I identified some people I believe are related to his last wife but the trail goes cold after a birth in 1966. As i can't find any further mention of any of 4 children, I'm guessing the family emigrated. Are there any modern records to check?
