You have been busy while I have been asleep and thank you all :-D

Luckily I remembered (one of those 3 o'clock in the morning moments!) that I have a contact who volunteers at the Library in Utah so for completeness I will ask her to check the BTs for the 1618 entry, not that I am expecting it to be there.

In my opinion something like this does go to show that transcriptions shouldn't be relied on and one must, wherever possible, check the original.

Many, many thanks to everyone for their help with this.

Chris

The annoying thing Kucinta, is that the transcription on Ancestry seems to link to the incorrect image.

Its nicely laid out with the start of the New Year (Apr 1619) seperated from March 1618/9 by

Don't forget - what is classed as Feb 1622 in the church register is what we think of as Feb 1623, as the year started on Ladyday (25th march), so ran from March to March.

If you look at the rest of the page 17 of 189 on Ancestry, you have baptisms from May 1622 onwards in the first column, July 1722 onwards in the second column, October 1722 in the third column, then January 1722 in the fourth column.

if you turn over to page 18 of 189 on Ancestry, you can see the entries for 1623 start with a burial on 26th march, the day after Lady day.

So the baptism register says 16th Feb 1622, but we would say it was actually Feb 16th 1623.

EDIT: I know wiki is not the most reliable source, but I didn't have time to search for somrthing more scholarly...

Chris

Do you mean 1622 image 12 on Ancestry?

Anyway that one in 1622 is 'my' Nicholas and I really think the 1618 is a mistranscription given it is the same day and month (why hadn't I noticed that before:-|) but for completeness I will check the BTs at some point.

Many thanks
Chris

At least it is not me (for a change).

I will see if I can get sight of the BTs sometime but it isn't desperate for my research.

Many thanks Det

The only Feb baptism seem to be

John Nicholls, First day of Feb
Richard Porter 15 Feb

Couldn't even spot a Nicholas Izod as a godfather.

Nope! I wonder if the Izod is actually part of Baptised?

Unless someone else can spot it in the meantime, I'll have another look when I'm on the PC ( less stuttering than this thing)

Either it isn't there or I need new glasses!

Family search has this baptism from BTs
Name: Nicholas Izod
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 16 Feb 1618
Christening Place: CHIPPING CAMPDEN,GLOUCESTER,ENGLAND
Father's Name: Nicholas Izod

Here is where it should be on Ancestry in the Chipping Campden register (if you have a sub)...

Can anyone spot it?

Many thanks
