OK, this is what I can ascertain from the 3 documents I found:

Full name William Wood.

He was captured 13 Dec 1917 at Cambrai/Bullecourt (see link below re: fighting there at the time he was captured). He was uninjured at the time.

It seems he was first taken to Dülmen camp and then to Schneidemühl. The personal information on the registers shows he was born 22 Aug 1891 at Scholes/Rotherham. Next of kin was his wife (no name stated) at 5 Holmes Sq, Rothwell, Leeds, Yorks.

I can't see a camp death report for him but the Register of Soldiers Effects for him (on Ancestry) shows he died of influenza at Schneidemühl.

I've put links to the images below.

Hi Ally

It isn't the most user-friendly site!

If you want to give details (name, rank, regiment, etc) then I'll take a look and see what there is.

Hi there,

Not sure if I did that and couldn't find anything, not really sure how to use the site.

Thanks.

Apologies if you did do so, but when you found the index card for your relative did you note any PAxxxx number(s) on the card and then search for those referenced documents?

I've researched quite a few WW1 PoWs for our local project and sometimes the trail does stop at the index card but in quite a lot of others there have been registers showing when and where they were captured and also how they died. Some of the registers have also shown the prisoner's date and place of birth, occupation, next of kin and more. The registers are mainly in German but there is a separate glossary to aid translation.

Don't suppose anyone has ever sent of for the prisoner records? Would love to know if it's worth while.
