Gai .............

it's every 5 years now ............. statistical analyses on population changes, etc are issued as soon as they are analysed, and are then used to plan future programs and directions by local municipalities and provincial and federal governments.

The long-form is the one that gives that information, so it was a stupid decision by the previous government.

The last census released in full is the 1921. After that, all censuses were conducted by Statistics Canada and the act setting that up does not permit the disclosure of personal information from post-1921 census returns except for people who require information about themselves, for pension or other legal purposes.

Under the legislation, the records will be opened for public use and transferred to Library and Archives Canada 92 calendar years after the taking of a census.

I agree Sylvia it's great news they have seen the error of their ways.

How did they expect to plan for the future when they had no idea of the present.

Did Canada have a census every 10 years.

Our new PM and his Cabinet were installed yesterday

First act ........... honoring his campaign promise for equal representation. There are 15 women and 15 men, plus the PM, in the Cabinet :-D

Not to mention representation from every province and territory, 4 Indo-Canadians, 2 with disabilities, 2 First Nations, etc etc etc

Second act ................ 2 Cabinet ministers announced this morning that the mandatory long-form Census (canned in 2010) will be reinstated in time for the next Census in 2016

Great news for family historians and statisticians alike :-D
