Is it possible to phone them first and find out if the systems are working?

That is really annoying Lesley. I hope you don't live too far away.

How frustrating is life, drove to Kew Archives as you can search 1939 Register free to find site has crashed and you cannot use FMP site what a waste of time and petrol.

Isn't the problem that they work in columns. when transcribing and then if for some reason the transcribed columns do not match you find the wrong people being opened.

As I mentioned early on one thread, my SiL is open even though she is alive and well. Her dob is given as 1869 which is probably that of my GmiL who may be the other person in the household who is closed.

Hi Sylvia

Thank you for your reply.

Mary is the person who is blocked and she died in 1955.

Mary's son is visible and his name is Sidney so it's just a boo boo.

Given the number of records which they have transcribe you can't expect them to be 100% correct.

:-)

Gai ........

The Register was continually updated into the early 1990s as it formed the basis of the NHS when that was brought in in 1947.

Thus, what you have seen means one of two things

a) the person died after 1991/1992

b) the person died before 1991/1992 but the Register has not received official notification of the death OR the person died overseas.

The son should not be visible, of course ........... is it possible that they have received incorrect information. Was the son's name similar to the deceased person's?

You can of course get FMP to correct the problem by contacting them, providing the evidence of the death and the still alive ............. but I gather it costs.

Yes I have found the same problem.

A person who is deceased is blocked yet the son who is alive is visable.

Brian -

There are several threads discussing various aspects of the 1939 register - maybe some of them mention the problem you imply.

I think this is the longest thread, but there are others if you have a look on Genealogy Chat:
