Hello

My grandfather changed his surname and I am not sure how to show this on the family tree other than adding in the notes. Does anyone know how else I could do it please?

Could you put his surname as e.g. Smith previously Bloggs and put in his notes when/why the change.

The system won't let you put Smith/Bloggs. You could try Smith nee Bloggs, Smith or Bloggs, Smith prev. Bloggs and there may be room for some of the new name to show too. (I've used that for a widow remarrying)

His predecessors will be Bloggs and you can show his descendants with Smith if their surnames were the newer version. I read your OP as only him being affected.

Hi

Thank you for this information. i will give it a go.

As my Grandfather changed his surname (reasons unknown) my father and then of course me have the changed surname. I have just started my tree and I found when I highlighted my great grandfather he was not shown as a relative of mine. My cousin also changed his surname and when you highlight his sons names he is not showing as father although the lines on the tree (not sure what else to call them) show his sons as descendants.

Appreciate you help

Kind Regards

Christine
