A birth cert is just a bit of paper showing the details which have been registered.

Someone could have two separate bits of paper - one issued when the birth was first registered, and then a later updated copy noting the change of name.

But there's only one registration, even though it may have a change of name added.

Your friend has the second bit of paper, which supersedes the first one.
His parents may have destroyed the first bit of paper once the corrected one was issued.

It is not possible to get a copy of the original bit of paper from before the change.

Do you know if you have 2 birth certificates if you re-register the birth of a child to change the first name?

A friend has a 'birth' certificate which on line 17 notes down his change of first name
in 1984 Doncaster.
Thank you
