Hi there Davo,

I know this is a long shot, but the Salvation army have to keep their records believe it or not forever. The Victorian Historical part of the Salvation Army have got their records back from dot. Their is what you call an officers roll which would list every officer from all the cors but they have also information of events deaths etc on members. This is a great search tool for anyone who has family involved in the Salies. I know because I have had to talk to them in only the last couple of days and my family were involved and still are in the Salvation Army. It is like a law within the Sallies that these records be kept.

Hope this helps. Kerry

Thank you all for your replies. I am really interested in the son, Charles Palmer. I think there is the possibility that he emigrated to Canada after WW1. David

Yes, they tended to keep very comprehensive records - try a google search for Salvation Army Records.

Davo: A few family members on my mum's side were in the Salvation Army (in Canada). I have a couple of obituary notices from the 1940's(50's?). I believe they were from the Army's newspaper, so there was a newspaper in Canada at least. Perhaps there might be some written information where Elizabeth lived?

Does anybody know if there were lists of members of the SA? My ggf died in Norwich in 1878 aged 27 soon after my grandfather was born. His wife was a member of a Baptist Church in Norwich. The church records show that sometime later she left to join the Salvation Army. They do not say where. Later she remarried in Croydon. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Grimes, married name Elizabeth Plested, 2nd marriage was to Ernest Palmer in 1889 in Croydon, and they had a son, Charles Palmer in about 1890. In 1901 they were living in Aldershot. Are there any SA records of membership where I can find more about Elizabeth?
