Probably me being thick, but I cant work out how to order it. My grandad was from Sweden, he came over in 1946 aged 18 to work, and never went back. I have his parents names but not his mothers maiden name or even which part of Sweden he was from. He never, ever spoke of Sweden or his family, which I find odd. His birth cert has allegedly 'gone missing', even though he probably needed it to get married. Thanks.

Diane, maybe with1960 papers it is too early for those records to be available. I dont know who can decide when things can be made available earlier, I think originally theyre all covered by the 100 year rule, maybe the age you are at the time of neuteralisation has a bearing on it, my grand father was 60 at the time, so by waiting 73 years they were pretty sure he would have died!! though his son was neuteralised 2 years earlier in 1920 at the age of 24 and his papers are available now as well. good luck with it all anyway. Hi Nicky, I bet you're thriled! I obtained my grandfathers certificate by going up to Kew and searching for it myself. Didn't realise that there may have been more info, Like you have been given! My grandfathers name doesn't come up in the search though, It is a little later than yours. I will be ringing them on Monday to see if there is more! Pat x

I have just searched TNA and found my Dad's naturalisation (1960) is actually catalogued. This is the message that comes up Closed Or Retained Document, Open Description, Closed For 100 years This document was closed under the Public Records Act or is exempt under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. It is possible to request a review of the information it contains under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and this will trigger a review. Request review. Further information about access conditions is available I have a copy of the actual cert (Mum has the original) but it would be interesting to see what else is in the file.

Diane, No I didnt have to prove any relationship at all, it was all done by email and I ordered it and paid for it all online, because Ive been married I no longer share my grandfathers surname, so to the NA I could have been anyone. Good luck. Nicky

Nicky, Is all that info on the Naturalization Certificate? I have my grandfather's Naturalization papers but it doesn't have that much info on them. Just parents name and place/date of birth. Pat x

Hi dandan and Karen, the records I received are stamped 'closed until 2023' though they have apparently been available since 1995, so they were closed for 73 years. I found them by putting my grand fathers name in search box on The National Archives Site and the results came back with his name, place of origin and town he was living in at the time of Nateuralisation, I knew it was him as it is an unusual name, if your relatives have a common name it may be harder to pinpoint the correct person. I had to e mail them for a quote, which took 2 weeks , and then wait another 2 weeks for delivery, but boy was it worth the wait, happy hunting. Nicky

Hi Nicky, how much info do you need to get these certificates? I believe my great-grandmother & possibly her husband too originated from Germany, but apart from her name & approx date of birth, I know precious little about her. It has brought me to a complete standstill on that branch of the tree for some considerable time.

Just had to share my good news, I finally today received my Greek grandfathers Nateurlisation details from 1922, the best £18.00 Ive ever spent, they contain his DOB, his parents names and nationalities including his mothers maiden name, his brother and sisters names, and place of residence in 1922,{ including his sisters married name and husbands proffession, stated as priest!!} presume it must be Greek Orthodox or something as Roman Catholic priests cant marry, Where he was educated, and the dates he lived abroad in other places before arriving in England. There are Police reports ,Drs. reports and declarations from 6 friends to say that he was honourable, honest etc. Also includes his !st wifes name and maiden name, she died in childbirth, {according to family } and her country of origin, all in all alot to digest in one go, if you have any relatives of foreign descent, who then became British subjects, try the National Archives for these records, and thanks to Heather P.T.who pointed me in the right direction in the first place. Just had to share my delight. OH cant see what the fuss is all about!!!! Nicky
