We all know how valuable family photos are and the older the better! Please do keep an eye on Ebay collectibles/photographs for family photos. I have now browsed and contacted some members of GR because there have been some named photos up for auction - these people probably think I am either mad, or the seller and therefore making a profit. I am neither, but it is a valuable source of info. Good luck!

Angela, Jolly well done! My toes curl everytime I see old photo or postcard albums coming up on 'Flog It!' - do these people not realise that they're selling their heritage!??? Like you, I try to repatriate old photos and objects whenever possible. Someone recently found an army swimming trophy in their attic - from the easrly 1900s ... no luck finding the family line there yet though. Keep up the great work. Regs Annie

Nice one Angela,I would love to get my hands on any pic.paperwork, medal or anything relating to my family as I think most would do on here.I will bring up the dreaded Mary Ellen Goulden word but a cert I have got seems to link with the same name in a tree on GR.So will contact them to see if they have the cert.Their tree has only been added in the last few days.Wish they had put the info on before I got the cert..Anyway good advice...Wanda.x

Hi to those of you who responded so positively to my original message!

I have continued to let people know every now and then as I see things available and have had some lovely responses, thank you for those. I don't necessarily expect a response when I message someone as I am just passing on information, so its nice to receive follow up ........... when it is positive.

Unfortunately, of late, I have had several responses making it very clear that they are so far up. the genealogy tree that they have no need of even sincere random contact from anyone, least of all those they consider to be on the lower branches.

I have learned two lessons in my life; "You never know who you are talking to" is the first and the second is "No matter how much you know, there is always something else to learn."

I am saddened by these few responses as they don't reflect the warmth of this Community or the generally helpful, friendly nature of the genealogists that I have met, professional or amateur.

I hererby hang up my Robin Hood cap.

What a shame you have had such offhand responses to your kind efforts. My Mum always said it doesn't cost anything to be polite .and what goes around comes around .
Treat others like you would want to be treated was another of her maxims
Doesnt cost anything to reply and thank people for the info given ,even if its not of any interest at that moment.
I would love some old family photos but these were often out of reach money wise to my rellies.

Please don't let rude people put you off helping others. i can't believe anyone would not want photos of their ancestors/family. However twice I have tried to re-locate photos on here without success, I did manage to send one group photo to Australia but that was not via GR but via one of the FH magazines. Some people are still grateful to receive these things.
