Sue, many thanks for this. I will keep it in case. Gwyneth, yes I agreed with you so I will order it next week. I hope it will give me a new clue. Paul, thanks for it. I have found it. A picture of the church was in 1750. It is interested. I put it in my favourites.

Stephen, I remember there's a nice picture of the church on the Corporation of London's 'Collage' website. Not the later '1840s' church. As I say, it's a lot further north than the present church. I think there's a website that tells a little of the history of the church, maybe if you Google it?

Babz, thanks for the image, I just got it. Yes, I read Sue's message. That's great. Sue, thank you for it. I just found them in familysearch.org. I am surprised to see one of their children, Thomas Waters was christening in 1785 at Wilne. It sounds right one. I hope his death certificate will tell his exact age. I will try to find a proof of my Thomas Waters to be connected with John Waters and Hannah Sturland.

Many thanks for lots of responses. I am greatly appricated all of your help. Richard, is your marriage entry in 1809 have witnesses? It might help who they were. I don’t need their parents yet. I don’t know where Thomas was born. He died in 1841 after census. Paul, I see that the church was built in 1840s. I wonder where they were married in 1810 in Paddington? Sue, wow there is Hannah Sturland who married to John Waters. That must be her. I understand that they would be grandparents of William and Richard. However, I dont know where Thomas Waters was born and who his parents were. I am waiting for his death certificate. It should be arrive here next Monday, I hope. So I hope it might have a clue. Thanks for your help. Babz, yes that’s right. You found my family website from Tribals. Charles de Grussa was my gg grandfather. I gave her my family history. Thanks for helping me. I have 1841 and 1851 census images. However, I could not find Hester in 1861. She might died in 1877 in Edmonton or 1869 in Westminster as Esther Waters. I have William Waters' marriage certificate. Richard was married to Mary Hayes (I think that’s her) and his family moved to Bristol and he died there. That’s where their mother was born in Bristol. That's interested! I am really surprised that you found the original image of Thomas Waters and Hester Hines' marriage in Raddington, Somerset. I wonder why it is different between IGI and Pallot Index. I thought it was Paddington in Middlesex. Yes please to send me the original image. I will pm you my email address. Cheers, Steven.

The copies that I have from parish registers also give the names of the witnesses which can be useful sometimes.

Just to mention, for anyone who doesnt know - the images you see on ancestry of the marriage is not the original parish register its part of the records copied from registers by Mr Pallot and his mates. I remember when I first started research and found a Pallots entry for my GGPx4 I was so pleased thinking I had their handwriting - lol.

I had ancestors married at St James Paddington so I did a bit of research. My notes are at home and I'm at work, but from memory the present church was built in the 1840's on a new site. At the time of your ancestors marriage it would have been located roughly where Paddington Green Police Station now is. Records will be held at the Westminster Archives.

Hang about - surely this marriage would be on Pallots (available from GR) and therefore you get a print straight off GR? I have no idea about the cost as I have an annual membership. It certainly worked for my ancestors married in the early 1800s in London. Clive

You can usually obtain a copy of a parish register quite cheaply. Having a copy of the ancestor's actual signature can often be useful to match him to another record...perhaps in a different area, if other information adds up. Gwyn

Hello Steven You mention that '' William Sturland Waters is (my gg grandfather)'' do you have your gg grandfather' birth certificate? he was probably born before 1837 ?? how old were the 2 sons in the 1851 census? this entry below would make the mother in her early 50's if she was born c1794. could be the son or nephew of your William though. England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983 Name: William Sturland Waters Year of Registration: 1847 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun DISTRICT: Westminster St Margaret County: Middlesex Volume: 1 Page: 451 1837 > Mothers Maiden Name will/should be on birth certificate. I would start at that point to clarify MMN before you send for the marriage entry. would you be able to copy and paste the 1851 details here? Babz

Richard Report 25 May 2007 03:22

St James Park seperates Westminster from Paddington, sounds right to me. I have a marraige entry from 1809, Hampshire not Middlesex, and the info is just names of both parties, whether resident in parish, signatures and signature of the vicar. No parents names which I suppose is what you are hoping for? That said apparantly you can occasionaly get lucky so might be worth getting it anyway.

I am thinking about ordering a marriage register of Thomas Waters and Hester Hines who might be my ggg grandparents. If there is no information in the register, I don’t want to have waste of time and money. I found it from IGI that they were married on 15 Jun 1810 at Saint James in Paddington. Is it near Westminster? They were with two sons, William Sturland Waters (my gg grandfather) and Richard John Sturland Waters in Westminster. I am not sure if Sturland was from their mother, Hester’s maiden name. She was born in Bristol around 1794, according to 1851 census. Does the marriage register appear their occupations and ages? Thanks, Steven from Australia.
