I have hunted high and low for my Skinnard family in the 1871 census (Ancestry) and can't find them anywhere and wondered if anyone could help. In 1861 they are at 27 Looe Street, Plymouth. In 1881 they are at 48 London Road, Southwark. The family are: John Prout Skinnard, born 1817 in Landulph, Cornwall, Mary Skinnard (wife), born 1815 in Landulph, Rebecca Skinnard, born 1847 in Landulph and Thomas Skinnard, born 1852 in Landulph. John was a master baker - he is listed as a pastry cook in 1881. They had definitely left Plymouth by 1871. The first son, James Skinnard, born in 1849 in Landulph, is in Walworth (recorded as Skinner) at 107 East Street, in the 1871 census and is also a baker. I think the only way of finding John and Mary is to try another 1871 index, for example, Origins. Can anyone help, please? Maggie

Maggie the whole family seem to have vanished in 1871, I have found them in 1881 and John died in 1882, maybe they were travelling at the time of the census? Georgina.

Hi Georgina That was the conclusion I came to as well, but I had a vague hope that they might be found 'on the road' so to speak. Thanks again. Maggie
