You can order service records from the army from this address:- Historical Disclosures Kentigern House 68 Brown Street Glasgow G2 8EX You need to fill in a form which you can telephone for. The cost is about £25 to £30, and there is sometimes a wait of several months. If there is next of kin with a closer relationship than you then you have to have their permission to get the records. You need to be next of kin to obtain records, or your father will have sign a letter stating he gives you access. That's what I had to do, but the info has been brill in certain parts, but parts of my grandfathers military record comes under the 100 year clause! boooo Kim |

Kim, Hi Do the undisclosed parts make up a substantial part of the file? Do you know if the hundred year rule and the next of kin clause also apply to WW1 records? I'd like to order my grandfather's WW1 records as I looked him up on the National Archives but was confused by the scanned images that came up as there appeared to be more than one person with that name included on the page. Either that or he was in three different regiments and had three different numbers during his short spell in the army. I knew he had served in France, but Ireland and other places were also mentioned. I'm pretty sure he had only fought during the war and had not been a career soldier. Regards Amanda |
