Does anyone recommend using any particular Family Tree software? If so, what's the benefit to using it rather than a site such as this? Kind regards Samantha

Sam Download the free programme from www*familysearch*org/ the benefit is that you can print off things from a programme, you can't do that really from Genes. Also if Genes ever goes down then you would loose all your info. Back up though if you use a programme. Sue

FTM is good for me too. I heard that it was available from Morrisons for as little as £8 Jim

There are loads of benefits to having your on somewhere other than Genes. Not least of all, the software is usually far more user friendly than this site and it is far easier to enter info and see a whole family at once. You can also print different charts and reports, you can export your tree in a GEDCOM file to other sites or to other people. You can also backup your tree to CD or similar, so that you don;t lose anything should the worst happen. I use Family Tree Maker, like Steph. Try it, you won't look back!

I use FTM too - it's great! Well worth it, especially as you can get it reasonably cheap now. Laura

I have been using Family Tree Maker for 3 years now, I upgrade every time a new version comes out. I love it! You can store all your census returns, certificates, photos andything you like for each person. It is much easier to use than the GR tree and it doesn't go wrong when GR make changes to their site!!!! I work on my FTM and upload the gedcom to here every now and then. dizzy
