	Can anybody tell me what a coal carman is. I have come across it many times on certificates and I have no idea what occupation it was, even though I have looked. Any imput would be great Cheers Tracie :-0)

	Hi Tracie, I believe it to be a driver of a vehicle used for transporting coal. Carmen were employed by railways to transport and deliver goods. See Hall Genealogy website, best wishes Joan

	Carman/Charman/Carrier/ Carter/Cartman Driver of (horse-drawn) vehicles for transporting goods. Carmen were often employed by railway companies for local deliveries and collections of goods and parcels. Modern day van driver. Also sometimes someone who drove horse-drawn trams was called a Carman.

	Tracie, if you google anything you dont know there is a very good chance it will come up. For occupations, just google the actual job or old occupations and lots of helpful sites will come up.
