HELP!!!!!!!! I have Romany Gypsies in my family tree going back to the 1770s. Most of them married within their clan (to cousins, second cousins etc) and some even remarried within the clan to other family members who had also previously been married within the clan - VERY CONFUSING!!!!!!. Is there any way of linking them up correctly without duplicating the parents etc. Fortunately for me my direct descendants didn't intermarry and while I've done the direct descendants, i'm hesitant to put siblings and offspring on without confusing things. If it's not possible can anyone suggest a good alternative, i.e. other website etc? |

It's not possible on this site. I have only a couple of examples of this and have had to put people on twice. I use a tree programme offline which allows these sorts of links. http://www(.)genopro(.)com/ Remove brackets. Sue |

You need to build your tree in another software package such as Family Tree Maker, etc, which you will need to install on your PC. These programs allow for intermarriages etc to be correctly linked up. Each software package is slightly different, but for FTM when you enter a name and date of birth that is the same as one already entered in the file, you will get a pop-up box asking if the new individual is the same person as the existing one or not. If it is, then click the Yes button and the name will be correctly linked. Once you've built your tree on your PC, then export it to a Gedcom file and import the Gedcom to GR. The correct linkages will then be shown on your GR tree. If your tree is currently only on GR, you will first need to export it from here as a Gedcom, then import the Gedcom into your PC software package. Richard |
