I can't find any birth records for my grt grandfather, all the records i do have tell me he was born in 1865 and in Hanley S-O-T I know his parents names, could the registrar find him just by surname and parents and year. I am sure he must have not used the name he was given because there is no baptisam or anything. Unless the parents i have him with were not his birth parents. Sorry if this is a bit confusing hope you can understand what i mean. Gill

Gill i have the same problem GG Grandfather married and died but not born. When I get off my a*se and back onto that branch gonna write to registry office (plymouth) and see if they can find him for me. From what I've been told a lot of registry offices will return the £7 if they can't find the cert. T.O.R. ;o))

Joy Report 11 Apr 2007 18:54

It was not compulsory to register births at that time. That is true, T.O.R., provided you give them certain details, such as his / her parents would be .........

Hi Joy yes i know it wasn't not untill 1875, but the thing is there were two sons who didn't survive before him and they were both registered and baptiesd it's so frustrating. Gill
