The trick is to put the right words in the search box. You can put a phrase so long as it's contained within brackets. I rarely use the other parameters offered. Don't forget - it's really only an index so if you find something promising you then need to contact the repository that holds it. |

Sometimes there's a fair bit of information even before one digs into the full record . eg. for one surname on my tree I found this..... FILE - BELCHAMBER - ref. COR/3/3/1917/62 - date: 5 Nov 1917 [from Scope and Content] James Phineas, son of Rose Belchamber of 22 Queen's Park Road, Brighton, wife of Phineas Belchamber, serving in the army in France; 6 months; convulsions caused by ?gastritis .....so plenty of leads there. Here's another example of info on this site. I've been wanting to find out if a certain hospital record could be accessed and this was the result: Additional deposit, Medical records - patient case files [Access Conditions] These records are closed for 100 years. FILE - Patient case files, main series, nos 434-3650 [complete] - ref. DHSU/11/1-23 - date: 1937-46 So it really is a very useful website. Deb:) |

Sorry - went off to dig garden! I'm trying to get information on a particular tobacco company based in London in 1920's I have their address etc and wanted to see if company records were available anywhwere. Tried a2a yesterday and could get nothing. I'm obviously using the wrong search terms but having tried 'tobacco' , 'company records' and the name of the company itself I'm interested in I don't know what else to try. Any hints? Sue PS I've looked for other topics in the past with no success either. |

Dear Sue, If you know the address, try contacting the nearest public library to that address. They can usually turn up something - may even have photographs as well as records. Best wishes, Jacquie |
