Details on certificates are only as good as the information provided. If when asked her father's name, she did not say he was dead, then it would not be noted on the certificate. I have certificates where the father is named but not noted as deceased, yet has been dead for years, in contrast I have others where there is no father named, yet he is still alive and living with the family, also others where the named father was a figment of the imagination. Hi Ann, If daughter married and father was dead it would say on the marriage certificate name of father deceased. I have several marriage certificates with this on them. Have you checked for his death during these few days. Betty |

She was probably asked her fathers name, not if he was alive or deceased. Sue |

Hoping that someone may be able to clear up a mystery. On 1891 census, I have found relations with head of household (female) being shown as a widow. My question is that 4 days earlier (1st Apr 1891, ) above person's daughter is married and the name of the father is entered. Either he died within these four days, or on marriage certificates would name of deceased father been given? Any suggestions? Ann |
