I am trying to find a birth but more importantly a death for my aunts first husband.I have solved the mystery of the first husband. Also need to find re-marriage for my aunt in the USA. See below!!

The marriage took place in 1941 and I have the certificate. He was listed as 23 and police constable. I have searched the Commonwealth War Graves, I have searched the Metro Police for deaths during 2nd World War. I have search Ancestry FreeBMD for his death and birth with no luck. He had four christian names which are listed on the marriage cert, so should be reasonably easy to spot. My aunt apparently remarried prior to Feb 1948, but I don't know the exact date. I will PM name details to anyone who thinks they can help.

If you cant find him on Ancestry FULL records then perhaps they divorced rather than he died. Shirley

That thought had crossed my mind and I don't suppose there is anyway to find that out. My aunt is deceased and I can't ask her children as I'm not sure they know about the first marriage.

Well ,the second marriage cert should show her status . ie widow /divorced .have you got that cert yet

I haven't been able to find out the place and date of the 2nd marriage I have searched FreeBMD for a marriage but couldn't find it. But have a birth record cert for the first child of the 2nd marriage. It is possible the marriage did not take place in the UK.

It wont be on Freebmd nor will the death of the first husband because Freebmd doesnt go up that far. You need to search the FULL indexes on Ancestry thats the top section once you have clicked on England and Wales BMDS under More collections in the bottom section on the home page. If you have been searching Freebmd then that why nothing is being found Shirley

Updated to say I eventually found a remarriage for the first husband, so now I know that he didn't die during WW2. I have been unable to find the remarriage for my aunt and am fairly sure that it must have taken place out side of England. Is it possible to access marriage records in the USA for 1946 to 1951?
