I am also circumspect when it comes to opening my tree. That said, I only keep the most basic info on here ... name, dob, pob. My real tree is on FTM. That way any damage is limited.

I don't let anyone see my tree who doesn't have the courtesy to explain what they're looking for. Like you say I have worked very hard on my tree and have spent a lot of time and money getting BMD certs and travelling around. I am very aware of tree bandits also....some who just take for fictitious trees and some who yes have a genuine connection but just take a load of my work without asking. Its just plain rude. Liz

Oh dont even bother emailing genes here is mine. Subject : Feedback Hello I have had two messages from members whos trees I have apparently asked to view which I have not. Best regards, Julie The Genes Support Team Ok gave names and here is the reply. Thanks for your email. I am sorry but there is a small bug on our system. If you access another member's tree from the Your Contacts page, you will be taken to your own tree. If you just open up your tree in the usual way and then access the other member's tree from the drop down list in the top right hand corner you will be taken to the correct tree. I do apologise for the inconvenience. Our technical team are aware of this and do hope to have it fixed soon. Best regards, After this I went out to the garden and screamed......

Yes, I think it is just a glitch too. It also works the other way round - I have been given access to some people's trees just because they happen to be in my contacts list, and not because either of us has either asked for or given access. Kath. x

Hi, I am very protective of my tree because of all the hard work that has gone into it. So it makes me a bit cross to get an email requesting permission to see my tree without any other information. Needless to say I have not opened my tree and asked them who they want info on. So far there has not been a reply. Don't get me wrong I will help people where I can and goodness knows lots of people on here have helped me and pointed me in the right direction. Glad I got that off my chest so to speak. Gail
