Hi Bob, I hadn't heard of this type of cable either, but hubby said that's what you need. Here's a link to more info about one: http://www.revealcable(.)co.uk/Spec/1600/aa_1677/aa_1677.htm I was just joking about the Fast Show thing - it was more about what Ron suggested, because I'd just suggested the same thing, pretty much. No problem, just my evil sense of humour! Chris |

Make a gedcom on the old computer and e-mail it yourself, log onto your e-mail on the new computer, job done. Ron www*genealogyprinters*com |

You can connect two PCs together using a USB cable, but it has to be a bridged USB cable, and probably quite expensive if you won't be using it much. Could your wife e-mail the file to herself on the old PC and retrieve the e-mail on the new PC? Chris |

Yes, both pc's are in going order, ...just had a thought...Vers 6 only has facility to save to floppies.. would it be possible to Drag the family file to say a memory stick? and move it that way? Bob That sounds like a possible Ken, thanks.... |

FTM has the facilty to store the data on Ancestry which when you go into file on the first page you get the option to restore from Internet backup. If you cant do it any other way that would work altho i think it costs a little to do the storage.. She would need to reload her FTM of course first on to the new PC Shirley I,m assuming she still has the old pc working of course |

Ron/Carol Oneill, any one.......... perhaps you can advise me.........LOL My wifes pc has been running FTM vers 6. for quite a while and has a substantial tree on it..has a floppy disc writer, cd reader,only...several usb ports . problem, her NEW pc, does not have a floppy disc drive at all..but has a cd/dvd writer.....and several new fangled smart card readers. can you suggest a sensible way of retrieving her tree, and writing it to her new pc. the old is running ME........the new is XP.. I believe that XP has a file exchange program? dont want to mess up, my head will be on the block... breathlessly awaiting a reply....... Bob |
