Does anyone know/figured out how the new Star Rating works, or, more to the point, is it necessary? All my names have a 3 star rating, even someone who just happened to send me a PM. Is this just a useless gimmick? M. Steer |

if you click on to name you want to give stars to then click on star it will turn blue i don't think you can make them go back to black though then you can sort by stars by clicking on sort by. jeanette |

Actually, it is more use than it appears at first sight! I have given my rock solid, known relatives a five star rating. One star means there is no connection between our trees and neither of us ever thought there was - these are chit-chatty messages. Two stars means I am waiting for some kind of feedback - no connection yet proved. Three stars means we do share an ancestor, but a married in one, who is of little interest to me. Four stars means we share a blood ancestor to some degree or other. And five is close relatives of the more recent kind. OC |

Thankyou all for your replies. Fortunately/or unfortunately I only have about ten people that I share my tree with. I know their names and their connection, I don't need to give them a star rating. Different strokes for different folks! M.Steer |

That sounds as if you're a fairly new member with few contacts at the moment. An ideal time to start the reatings. Ozi. |

Ozi, not sure if I would be considered 'new'. I've been a member of GR for quite a few years now. I tend to go for quality not quantity. As I said 'different strokes for different folks'. M. Steer |

Margaret I initiate very few messages, but have hundreds and hundreds of people in my contacts list. I prefer to keep the 'no connection whatsoever between your Joe Bloggs born 1957 in Australia, and mine born 1820, cheshire' type messages, so that I do not inadvertently start another lot of fruitless correspondence. I too prefer quality to quantity - but how on earth do you achieve THAT on here, lol! OC |
