I have found two marriages where the result is Jan Feb or Mar of a particular year but nothing more than that. I have the reference number given with each entry but how do I get a copy of the original certificate so that I can find out who their parents were etc? I am new to all this and probably going the long way around but would appreciate any help. thanks Sheila |

You can order it from the GRO www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ It will cost £7 if you quote the reference numbers. Sam x |

It will cost you a total of £14 for both certs. If you don't need both do you have any information you could enter as a checking point? that way you will only be charged £7 for the one you need and £3 for the one you don't need. Caz |

What year are the marriages in? If it is before 1901, you might be able to find these people on the census, and so get parent's names that way. If it's after 1901, you will have to buy the certificates. Kath. x |

If you live near the County Archive for the area these marriages took place you could probably see them in the Parish Records and get a photocopy for about 50p. Thats always assuming they were long enough ago for the register to have left the church. Also that the marriages did, in fact, take place in church rather than registry office! £7 for each certificate seems a lot but if you have to travel any distance it will work out cheaper in the end!
