Can anyone suggest where I should look next for the birth of my Jane Barbour Adamson or the marriage of her parents, Sarah Barbour and Samuel Adamson? I have tried ScotlandsPeople to no avail. This is what I know so far: Her mother Sarah Adamson (nee Barbour) is shown on the 1851 census living with her mother (listed as daughter), no mention of Jane. Sarah is still with her mother on the 1861 and shown as a 'Mariners Widow' Jane is shown on the 1861 Scotish census as 9 years old, born Kirkcudbright, Kirkcudbright Scotland and living with her mother and grandmother On the 1871 Jane is living in England with her aunt and listed as being born in Scotland and aged 19. I have her marriage certificate showing her as age 20 in March 1872. Her father is listed as Samuel Adamson - Sea Captain. The last item that I have is her death certificate showing her age at death as 27, in August 1878. Deb (just off to bed so can't reply until tomorrow) |

I have tried the BMD, but no Jane Barbour Adamson is shown. There are lots of Jane Adamson's listed. I'm hedging a bet that she was born in Scotland. |

Good morning ladies. Elizabeth, I'm quite sure that Jane was born (after the census) in 1851. Thanks for looking. Irene, I will look into the sea captian connection. Joan - I think that you have on hit something there! I have been puzzled as to who John Jardine was on the 1861, living in the same household as Jane and Sarah, he is listed as Grandson of Sarah Barbour (mother of Sarah and Grandmother of Jane), but never persued the issue as I thought that he was a son of one of the 'other' Barbours in the household. His name has cropped up several times, but never associated him as being the son of Sarah (she was a widow after all ;). Now I have to go and see where John is on the other census. I know I have seen him with the family. Cheers, and Thanks again, Deb |

Now I know where I've seen the name Jardine before!! Living with Samuel (Sarahs brother and Janes uncle) on the 1851 census is a David Jardine age 30, servant, born Scotland! This avenue I must persue. Deb |
