recently found out that welling is a sept of the clan kettle but cant find info re kettle saw this on a site but not sure what it means. KETTLE MLN.PER.WIG 1733-1959 T C 7 pages Also in: FIF.ENG.SA. Census material and Edinburgh Directories. Other families mentioned: HAINES, ELSTOB, SINCLAIR, BURNET, WELLING, WILSON, PATON, RAITT, CAIRNS. |

Stephen I'm not an expert but I do know that much of what is available on the internet about clans, septs, coats of arms etc is either total or part fiction, especially if the source is outwith the UK. That's not to say that someone with the name Welling did not have some connection with Scotland at some time but if I had to put money on it I would guess that most people with that surname have no historical connection with Scotland. Don't know about Kettle in a Scottish context but I recall it has Scandinavian origins. Proceed with caution and obtain an authoritative book from a public library. Denis |
