A few years back I went to Bodmin Gaol - even as a Museum it was a really horrible place. It gave me the creeps. Some of it was closed to the public but if a building could tell tales that place certainly could - Horrible!! |

Bodmin Goal is in the town centre and is now a museum - their historians may have details of prisoners. As far as being sent to Bodmin was your ancestor a military man as Bodmin had both a civilian and military prisons within its walls which might account to his presence there especially if your ancestor was serving in the south west |

Hi there ,I belive my Great,Great Grandfather Henry Ross born @1844 to be a prisoner in Bodmin Moor in 1881. Can anyone help me with these questions. How do you find the crime committed dates etc.? Were you usually sent away from your local area to prison ,we believed that he was born in manchester do you think that to go to Bodmin you would be living in that area at at the time? Any info tips,or advise would be greatly appreciated ,I have tried CRO but they see they dont have access to these prisoner records.Any one else - please help,Many thanks. |
