If you come across a baptism entry on the IGI on a year after the death of the person, do not disregard it as a mistranscription. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints held, and still do hold, ceremonies to baptise dead people into the church.

Frankly, not being a Mormon, I would disregard it anyway.

You may not be mormon but your ancestors may have been. I have discovered that some of mine were. What I meant was, do not assume that all the dates are wrong because of the after death baptism.

You don't have to be a Mormon to be baptised into the Mormon faith after your death. Members of the Mormon faith routinely baptise their deceased ancestors to ensure they will all be reunited in heaven. And when in doubt about their own ancestors, they often baptise anyone of the same name, just to be on the safe side. I ignore posthumous baptisms as being completely irrelevant to family history research. OC

On the other hand if you find a baptism pre 1750 like the following: baptised 15 Dec 1742 buried 20 JAN 1742 don't forget that in the old style calendar the year began on 25 March :-)
