Deleting part of a gedcom?

A distant relative has kindly sent me his entire gedcom, as he has traced one branch of my tree back to the 1600s! Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to delete the parts of his gedcom that are not applicable to me (eg, his wife's family). Anyone have any ideas how I can delete an entire branch?

Tracey think you might have to ask him to save just your part and re-send it, not as easy to edit someone else's - although if you open it in PAF you might be able to do it. regards Looby

Thanks Looby. Unfortunately he sent the full gedcom, because he couldn't find a way of deleting part of it himself either.

Family Tree Maker and Legacy. Couldn't do it on either.

Good question - I've been wondering myself how you share selected bits only, so thanks for putting a query up. And thanks for the clear explaination, Michael. But what's a PAF? What does it do? Is it worth me learning even more stuff?? Bx

If you don't know what PAF is I wouldn't even try messing with the file, it's obvious that you do not have enough knowledge to do it. Send me the file and tell me who you want deleting, I do it almost every day with customers files. I'll delete them and send you the ammended file back. Ron www*genealogyprinters*com

Thanks Ron and Michael. I'll take a look - might have to take you up on your offer, Ron, if I need to delete anything! Bx

Thanks Michael. I'll give that a go tonight.
