Searching on a GR Tree

I have become increasingly irritated with GR's Search facility and would like to know if I am alone and being pedantic or if others also feel the same way. Recently I sent the following to GR: INITIAL FEEDBACK: In the Search Box at the top of the tree please restore to the previous system of <first name><surname><date> with the ability to enter just the surname with or without first name and date;. I don't usually remember the date of an individual. After a search result is presented and a name chosen, don't change the contents of the boxes, just leave them as the originally search parameters. This will save several keystrokes. Also don't start off with the tree owner's details as this is the one person I don't want to search on! REPLY: I trust the following will assist you. When using the search option in your tree, if you want to search on a surname only just enter the surname, leave the first name and date blank. You will then see all names with that surname in your tree. If you select one to view, you can select another from the returns if you select search again and previous results. The default in your tree will always be the tree owner's name. Please let me know if you require further assistance. MY RESPONSE: You still don't get it do you? The point is that with the old tree search I just entered the surname, as you suggest, but with the new tree, which presents to me the one person I never need to search for (the owner), after selecting the first name field, I have to then delete the first name, tab to the surname, after entry of the new surname, tab to the date, delete and then enter search, followed by a select of 'this tree'.That's five extra keystrokes every time I want to do a search for a surname. I don't want or need the first name, surname, or date after I select a name, as I can see that information anyway in the details, but I usually want to select another surname by using just 2 keystrokes (apart from the key-in of the name). Cannot GR programmers understand that their user interface is very badly designed and keystroke intensive? I suggest you try searching for a series of surnames in a tree & you will see how stupid and unneccesary the number of actions are. This applies to other areas of the user interface, but I won't bring that up yet until I can see you have understand this complaint. Your comments would be appreciated. |
