I've always used Genopro. You can download a free version http://www(.)genopro(.)com/ (remove brackets!) and if you like it upgrade. The free version is very versatile and all I used for years. Sue

Family Historian is an excellent program and is British based. You can download a free demo. Once you start with a 'proper' program you will realise how limited the tree on here is! Anne

I use FTM2005 and find it really easy to use. The reports and different trees that you can print are great and you can add and remove details easily. You can also add photos, and do loads of other things I haven't even tried yet. Kath. x

Whatever you do, make sure you've got a hard copy somewhere other than on here. Reunion is quite good software, but that is the only one I've tried yet and it is designed to run on a Mac. I used to have a home-made database on my word processing application which did suit me very well. I don't know if all tree programmes do it but Reunion's advantage over the Genes system is that you only have to add what information you know. Say you have a husband and wife, but only know the wife's forename and date/place of birth - it doesn't force you to enter a last name. I would suggest also getting one with the option to add notes on each person - that way you can see at a glance what information you have and if there are any gaps you need to fill in.

I would advise the use of an offline tree programme such as FTM , this will give you total control over your tree. With the problems everyone is having at the moment on GR, I would not trust them not to mess it up. Also you can edit easier offline and upload the Gedcom from the programme onto here, only putting those ancestors you want on and leaving those you dont want on here off. The tree printing options on an offline programme are far greater then on here as well. Go for it and get an offline programme. Hope this helps
