Shared Trees - but I didn't ask for it!

Over this weekend I have received 3 messages saying people have given me access to their tree, but I have had no previous contact with these people. On 2 messages we have a relation with the same name but not the right person (40 year difference in year of birth, other end of country etc). The other person I could see no connection with at all. Its a bit like hot matches gone mad.

I think it is because of all the new 'improvements' Genes are making to the site. There are quite a few glitches to be sorted out. Kath. x

Its really weird. My contacts list says that contact was created during April last year. I've replied to the 3 people explaining the situation but no response yet.

Apparently if someone who is in your contact list clicks on the button to give you access, then the system sends you a message to that effect.. This is what you are seeing. It doesn't mean they actually have anyone in common with you. The may just be in you contacts because you happened to send each other a message at some time in the past. Quite a few people are just experimenting with the new screen

I've had this as well .................. the problem seems to be with the new message system. There are two 'buttons' above the box. One says Give Access, the other says Request Access. If you are playing around, or just happpen to click your mouse pointer in the wrong place, and change either from No to Yes ............... then an IMMEDIATE automatic message is sent to whoever the message is currently addressed to. One poor person sent the messge to me twice in 2 days, both quite by accident.

My brother, photo taken in September 1991 just a couple of weeks before he died. ............................................................ To help us and to get better results, please post as much detail as you can, especially name, date(s) and place. Also say what you already know.

Hi All Have just come back on the site after a few weeks and am really confused. But at least I now know that others are having the same problem as I have, having spent a while trying to work out why someone wants to see my tree. Also I am sure that I used to be able to view someones tree and could get a list of all the names on that tree, does anyone know if that is still available? good luck to all! Janice

Its all 'thanks' to GR's meddling. All my deleted contacts have come back, too. And I've actually 'appeared' in peoples trees who I've never had any contact with....would be nice if they'd asked first!!

are you sure Rebekah that you are looking at thier tree's and not your own as if you look at tree though contacts it will be yours due to Gene's mix up its best to look at thier tree by going to your tree and click on list of trees you can look at. I just deleted 10 contacts that where not again wonder when it will get sorted had a few show me tree have contacted them but no reply as yet Jeanette
