Can anyone point me in the right direction, ive come to a complete standstill with my searching. At the top of my tree is John Mcgowan, 1808, Scotland, (have him tracked right thru to 1841 census) ive just found the next generation up on LDS, George McGowan + Janet Finalyson married 03/03/1799, plus 3 siblings, all from Kincardine, Perth, Scotland. Ive found a huge amount of McGowans from Kincardine but i just cant fit George into any of the families. What do i do now ? How can i find out more info on Johns father George ? Thanks in advance Jackie

Try looking for George's death cert on Scotlandspeople, general registration didnt start in Scotland till 1855 so you have to hope he dies after that. MI's (Monumental Inscriptions, inscriptions on graves) could be another way to go, you may find a family grave and have a generation or two mentioned. For information about the MI's recorded in the area you are looking for try getting in touch with the local family history society. Some births weren't recorded around about the time George was around or have been lost/damaged since and you may never find out who his parents are. This is a very helpful site for all type for scottish research http://scotfamtree.11.forumer.com/ Hope that helps in some way Mhairi
