Can anyone find out where my fa's mo is buried/disposed of? Ivy Caroline Symes (on her death cert - can't find any marriage cert.) nee' Wynn. Died 4th March 1918 - Poole, Dorset. More below.....

Also.. Burials for Caroline Wynn (Ivy's mo.) - died 31st Dec. 1948. Kate Hall (Caroline's sister) - died 24th Sept. 1934. Got photos of both gravestones, but no idea where they are. And can anyone explain ancestry to me - I've got full access (I've rung them and checked!), but I keep coming up with 'no relatives' or 'no results' or whatever, when I do a search - even for details I actually have e.g. death certs. so I KNOW they exist! What am I doing wrong? Doesn't it like me? Am I just thick? (Don't answer that!) People have been SO helpful, and found info for me, but I don't want to impose too much. But when I try to find out something myself, I get nowhere! Bx

She was only 27 when she died, so could be this birth? Name: Ivy Caroline Wynn Year of Registration: 1891 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Wokingham County: Berkshire, Wiltshire Volume: 2c Page: 396 On Ancestry, if you would like to pm me some details you know, will check for you, and see if I can find why you are not getting results

Hi Keith, Yes, that's her. I've tried entering her death - details above - but the only thing it came back with was a census entry, no death. I'd really like to trace if there's a marriage - possibly isn't, but at the moment, if ancesrty tells me there isn't one how can I believe them?! There's lots I'd like to look up, but at the moment I'm stymied. Maybe I'm doing it wrong! Do ancestry do electoral rolls, too? How late will they go with BMD's ER's and census's, do you know? Bx

Just a thought - check the database that you are searching on Ancestry for dates of coverage. That is, instead of doing a full search, drill down to the database you are interested in and look at the details. You may find they don't cover the dates. Good Luck.

Barbara, are you checking the COMPLETE indexes 1837-1983? FreeBMD is only partially transcribed and does not go up to 1918, I have found Ivy's death in 1918, Q1, Poole, 5a 358. The same applies to marriages and births. Go to this page http://www.ancestry.*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Remove star. Then click on Deaths under the Complete BMD images 1837-1983 Enter Ivy Caroline Symes, enter 1918. This will bring up the four quarters for 1918. Click on view image for Q1 (jan/Feb/Mar) and she is there. You have to trawl to quarter by quarter to find any you dont know the dates of. Just a note, you will not find burial dates on Ancestry, only BMD indexes, to find burial dates, you need to go to the parish registers or cremation books at the church/crematorium/records office that the event took place at. Checking for a marriage.

There's a Mary C Wynne 86 Thanet for Dec 1948. Could she have used her second name?

Kieth - I've found the list for her birth - 1st name on list Wm Wright, right? But there's no 'image' for me to click on to say I want to view the image - if you see what I mean?! Petrina - What do you mean by 'drill down the database'?? (Sorry, I'm not exactly computer-literate!) I think it would help if I could understand the layout of ancestry, but I can't seem to find my way around it. Lynne- That's a good suggestion - I'll ask Records Board about burials. Her - perported - husband's name was Francis William Symes, after whom my dad was named. He's supposed to have died when my dad was a baby, but there's no father listed on the birth cert. in 1910. However, on Ivy's death cert in 1918 she's listed as 'widow of'. Bx

Keith - There's no icon - (that's what I was trying to say, but forgot the right word!) - and when I click on where it should be, nothing happens! Petrina- No, sorry - she died in 1918 aged 27. Dad was born in 1910 when she was 19 or 20. Born and lived in Hants around Basingstoke area, moved to Bournemouth/Poole by 1910. Bx

I dont know whats happening there, there should be a small page with magnifying glass icon. If you are not getting this, I would contact Ancestry again and explain what is happening. If you followed my instructions which youb appear to have done, you should have the icon on the right.
