You need a reference like this: Jan-Feb-Mar (or Q1) 1872, Stoke T, 6b 278 Jan-Feb-Mar being the quarter the event was registered (Q1) 1872 obviously the year Stoke T = the registration district 6b = the volume number 278 = the page number. It is cheaper to get the certificate from the GRO if you supply these details. Sam x

Hi Joy, we record the GRO volume and page number along with the registration district, and obviously quarter and year of the event registered. This will enable you to purchase certificates from the GRO using the reference.

the persons name, district of birth/marriage/death (whichever you looking at), volume and page number. also if a marriage some have spouse name listed and some births have mothers maiden name. ************************************************* if you have the above when you go to buy the certs (i do it online) there are boxes for all this info and it makes the register office people life easier to find your record and means you dont get charged a search fee

If you supply the GRO reference and the other details (reg district, year and quarter) and name you can get them for £7 here:- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ No need to pay more than this.
